New York
New York is located in the northeastern United States. It is sometimes called New York State when there is need to distinguish it from New York City. Because of the preponderance of the population concentrated in the southern portion around New York City, the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate.
Age of consent is 17, with no sodomy laws.
Same-sex marriage in the U.S. state of New York became legal on July 24, 2011, under the Marriage Equality Act.
