San Diego — A soccer team walked off the field during a winning match because a player on the opposing team allegedly hurled an antigay slur at one of its gay teammates.

A player on Phoenix Rising “used a homophobic slur directed at Collin Martin,” San Diego Loyal SC, the California city’s professional soccer team, claimed on Twitter. “In response we have decided to walk off the pitch in protest.”A soccer team walked off the field during a winning match because a player on the opposing team allegedly hurled an antigay slur at one of its gay teammates. LGBTQ HISTORY MONTH: United States Naval Academy Evolves With LGBTQ Acceptance

Annapolis — Up until 2011, it was difficult to be openly LGBTQ at USNA, which has roughly 4,500 students who go on to become military officers after their time in Annapolis.

However, with increasing acceptance of LGBTQ people in mainstream culture, USNA students are experiencing a different environment. The Academy now boasts an LGBTQ alumni association for graduates, a Genders and Sexualities Alliance club for current students, and an overall supportive atmosphere. (More)
