Coverboy Then Thye Came For Me
Then They Came For...
By Daddy
Las Vegas — I was 10 years old when the Selma to Montgomery marches occured. There were good reasons for the marches and I was impressed with the peaceful protests. Being in Oklahoma City, We got the details of the "Bloody Sunday" that the rest of the country did not. I remember a lot of the protests of the late 60s and I was sympathetic to the causes but because I was a child couldn't do anything.
Fast forward 50 years and I'm proud of the progress that's been made. Where people of color live among whites, use the same bathrooms, go to the same churches, work along side others. Then I look at the statistics of law enforcement violence towards non-whites & non-cisgendered and see that there is a huge hole that needs to be closed up.
I am reminded of a potent poem by Martin Niemoller who was a German Lutheran pastor in the 40s
First they came for the Communists and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Communist.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.
Can we not in the 2020s substitute "Black", "Latino", "Asian", & "LGBTQ+" to update that poem? Almost 70 years later and we are still dealing with the same problems of violence just under different terms.
First they came for the Blacks and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Black.
First they came for the Latinos, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Latino.
Then they came for the Asians, and I did not speak out — Because I was not an Asian.
Then they came for the Gays — and there was no one left to speak for us.
My underwear and socks on the rack in front of the fan are dry. Every time I go by the back, I fold a few pieces to put away. I'm under the weather last night and today so taking it easy.
I tried the Two Ingredient Crisp Oven BBQ Chicken last night. A little bit tedious to make but with an outstanding result using my Sugar Free BBQ sauce. Very Tasty dish and a nice departure from my normal "Garlic and Herb" and baked chicken. It does make a very juicy chicken so be sure and poke holes in the thighs to let the excess fat drain out.
I'll be watching the pennies until the weekend (who am I kidding, I'm always watching my pennies). To all those that have donated, Thank you for your donations!. Any help is appreciated. Here's a link to the How to Donate Page
